Understanding the Legal Migration Process

Step 1 — Choose a licensed agency
Start by verifying that the agency you're considering holds a currently valid SLBFE license, using this site's verify tool or the official SLBFE register. Never proceed with an unlicensed agency or a 'sub-agent' who cannot show their own valid license.
Step 2 — Registration and documentation
Legal migration for foreign employment generally involves registering with SLBFE, which typically requires documents such as your NIC, passport, and other identification. Your licensed agency should be able to explain exactly what's required for your specific job and destination.
Step 3 — Medical examination
Most destination countries and the migration process require a medical fitness examination at an approved medical center before travel. Be cautious of anyone offering to skip or falsify this step.
Step 4 — Contract review and orientation
Before departure, you should receive and review your written employment contract, and typically attend pre-departure orientation covering your destination country, your rights, and emergency contacts.
Step 5 — Departure through verified channels
Travel only through the arrangements coordinated by your licensed agency and SLBFE's processes. Keep copies of every document — your contract, license number of your agency, insurance details, and emergency contacts — both physically and digitally (e.g. emailed to yourself).
