Privacy Policy

Last updated 10 October 2026.

expathjobs.com is an independent, free tool. This page explains what data we collect and why — in plain language, not legal boilerplate.

Site analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit the site and which pages they use — for example, how many people use the verify tool versus browse the directory. This collects general information like your approximate location (city level, from your IP address), device/browser type, and which pages you visit. Google Analytics uses cookies to do this. We do not use this data to identify individual visitors.

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites using Google's browser opt-out add-on.

Searches

You don't need an account to use this site, and we don't ask for your name, phone number, or any ID. When you check an agency, the licence number, name, or phone number you type is sent to our server to look it up. We don't save these searches. Your IP address is held in memory for up to two minutes only to stop automated abuse, and is not stored. Because a search appears in the page address (for example /verify?q=1712), Google Analytics may record it along with the page visit.

Cookies

We set one cookie of our own, NEXT_LOCALE, to remember the language you chose (Sinhala, Tamil, or English). Google Analytics sets its own cookies, described above.

Agency directory data

Agency names, licence numbers, licensee names, addresses, and contact details shown in the directory come from the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment's public register. We show only what SLBFE publishes, and when SLBFE removes something, it disappears from this site at our next check.

The Japan feedback question

On the Japan pages we ask one optional question: what is the hardest part of getting a job in Japan. If you answer, we store only the option you chose, any text you typed (up to 300 characters), which page and language you were on, and the time. We do not store your name, email, IP address, cookie or any account, because there is none. Your IP address is held in memory for up to two minutes only to stop automated abuse. The answers stay on our server, are read only by the people who run this site to decide what to build next, and are never sold or shared. Your browser remembers that you answered so we don't ask twice; nothing links that to the answer on our side.

Price and test-result reports

On agency pages and the Japan costs page you can report, anonymously, what an agency quoted or what you paid: the route, the amount, what it included, the month, and optionally the agency's licence number. On the Japan test pages you can report your own JFT-Basic result: the month, the band, months of study, whether it was your first attempt, and what you used. These forms take numbers and choices only; there is no free text. We store those answers with the page language and the time, nothing else: no name, email, IP address, cookie or account. Amounts for an agency are shown only as a range once at least three people have reported, so no single report can be traced to one person. Everything shown is labelled as unverified visitor reports. Your browser remembers that you reported so we don't ask twice; nothing links that to the report on our side.

What we don't do

We don't sell data. We don't use tracking for advertising purposes.
